The Wrap-Around Timeline is based on modern' civilization’s origin story and the hidden cultural biases that continue to drive it forward. Starting at the top of the neck with the Big Bang, it continues all the way around the his core several times until it ends on his back by his shoulder with humanity’s ability to manipulate DNA!

The Full Arm Sleeve is broken down into the different generations of humanity and their impact on our planet. It explores themes of ethics, sustainability, and global catastrophe.

The blue part represents the past generations whom we call, The Leavers, or those who cared for and lived in balance with the planet.

The yellow part represents the current generation, whom we call, The Takers. Those who disregard their impact on the planet and in fact, seek to exploit it’s resources at all costs.

The green part represents the future generations of humanity yet to come or those whom we refer to as, The Makers. Their ability to combine nature and technology to create harmony between humans and the rest of the planet offers us hope.

The journey through the tattoo ends with a Flower of Life design on the hand! The fingers had yet to be completed in this photo.

Not technically a part of the Ishmael project, but we like to think that if he had a tattoo on his hand, it would be the Flower of Life! Fingers still in progress in this photograph. | In-Progress Tattoo by Shane Acuff

Still a long way to go on this one.

The armpit is coming up next, followed by the detail work on the transition points between the timeline layers on his core and the generational layers on the arm sleeve. Not to mention that that nipple needs another blackout session!

All in all, we’ve made a lot of progress.

Think Ishmael would be proud!
